As a follow-up to the launch of the first Global Patient Safety Challenge in October 2005, a one-year-on meeting is organized by the WHO World Alliance for Patient Safety at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, on 10 November 2006. The meeting will announce progress made worldwide since the launch of the Global Patient Safety Challenge.
The one-year-on event aims to:
- provide an opportunity to Member States to sign a Statement committing to address health care-associated infection;
- highlight the achievements of Member States that have signed the Statement since the 2005 launch of the Global Patient Safety Challenge.
The event, chaired by Sir Liam Donaldson, Chair of the World Alliance for Patient Safety, will include keynote speeches by ministers of health, academics and WHO staff. The Palais des Nations site will video-link with several national sites in the African, Eastern Mediterranean, European and South-East Asian regions of WHO.
Proceedings will also be available via web stream either from the Global Patient Safety Challenge website (http://www.who.int/gpsc/en/) or from (http://terrance.who.int:85/streaming/patientsafety/a_year_of_cleaner_safer_care.wmv) to facilitate remote participatioen in the event.
